BAS pre-fill walkthrough
How Karven adds up a quarter's sales, GST and subbie GST credits into draft BAS figures you copy into the ATO portal.
Updated 2026-10-22
Karven can add up the main BAS figures for a quarter from the quotes you've been paid for and the subbie invoices you've raised. You check the numbers and copy them into the ATO portal yourself.
BAS is part of the Compliance add-on, which needs the Pro plan. Switch it on in Settings → Add-ons, then open Tax & ATO from the menu.
What Karven fills in
- G1, total sales (inc GST). Accepted quotes with an invoice paid during the quarter.
- 1A, GST on sales. One eleventh of G1, if you're registered for GST.
- 1B, GST on purchases. The GST on subbie invoices (RCTIs) you raised in Karven and paid during the quarter. See RCTI.
- Net GST. 1A minus 1B.
Because sales count when the customer pays, these figures follow the cash basis.
What Karven doesn't fill in:
- GST on your other purchases (materials, fuel, tools). Karven doesn't have your supplier bills, so add these from your own records or your accounting software.
- W1 and W2 (wages and PAYG withheld). Karven doesn't run payroll, so these stay empty.
- PAYG instalments and anything else the ATO pre-fills for you.
Making one
- In Tax & ATO, start a new BAS.
- Pick the quarter. Karven shows each quarter by its dates, so there's no mixing up financial-year and calendar quarters.
- Check the figures it shows, then save.
- On the saved BAS, tap the copy button next to each figure and paste it into the ATO portal.
- Once you've lodged, tap Mark as lodged. Finalise locks the figures so they can't change.
Before you lodge
Karven only knows about payments that went through Karven or that you marked paid. If a customer paid you in cash or by transfer and you didn't record it, it won't be in G1. Check the figures against your bank account and your accounting software, or have your bookkeeper check them.
Karven doesn't lodge for you. You (or your BAS agent) lodge through the ATO's online services.
Working with a bookkeeper
Send them the figures from the saved BAS so they can check them against your books. There's no read-only bookkeeper login.
You can also have Karven email your accountant a yearly summary each July from the Tax & ATO page.
See BAS each quarter for a simple routine.
