/ Vs Tradify · what tradies tell us

Karven vs Tradify.
We nail the quote step.

Straight up: Tradify is a proper job-management tool used by tens of thousands of tradies, and for scheduling, time-tracking and in-app invoicing it beats us. This page isn't about that. It's about three things tradies who switch to Karven keep telling us they were missing, and what we do instead.

  • Clunky estimating
  • No invoice consolidation
  • Unreliable read-receipts

§01 / What tradies miss

Three review themes. Three honest answers.

We're not going to invent Tradify facts or quote pricing we can't stand behind. These are the things tradies bring up in public reviews and on the phone with us. For each one, here's what Karven actually does.

01What they tell us they miss

Quoting and estimating feel clunky

A recurring note in Tradify's own public reviews.

What Karven does

A pricing engine inside the quote

Karven isn't a blank line-item builder. Pick the trade, answer the job, and the engine returns the maths: cut-optimised board counts, frame brackets by mount and width, m² and m³ pricing, live AU supplier rates and your margins. 13 trades live. You tweak the output, you don't build it from scratch.

02What they tell us they miss

You can't roll several jobs into one invoice

Tradies in reviews ask repeatedly to consolidate invoices.

What Karven does

Consolidated statements for repeat customers

Did five small jobs for the same builder this month? Karven groups them so the customer gets one clean statement instead of five separate bills to reconcile. Built for the B2B reality of subbie-to-builder work, where one relationship spans many jobs.

03What they tell us they miss

Read-receipts say “opened” when nobody opened it

Unreliable quote read-receipts are a common review complaint.

What Karven does

Server-side verified opens

Karven logs an open server-side when the customer's browser loads the actual quote page, and skips your own previews. No email pixel firing on a spam scanner, no false positive. When you chase a quiet quote, you're acting on a real signal.

§02 / Side by side

The shape of the trade-off.

Marks: yes, partial, no. Where a row is honestly a Tradify win, we mark it that way.

Branches on opened / accepted; knows long weekends.

AU tax layer (BAS / TPAR / RCTI)

Contractor reporting and recipient-created invoices built in.

Per-workspace pricing

Add the apprentice for free.

Full job management (scheduling, time-tracking)

Karven is quoting-first. Pair it with Tradify for this.

Tradify marks reflect what tradies report in public reviews, not a claim about any specific Tradify plan. Where we're unsure, we leave it off the table rather than guess.

/ Verified opens

Know when they've actually opened it.

When a customer opens your quote link, Karven records it server-side. Not a pixel in an email that fires the second a spam filter scans the inbox. A real open of the real quote page, logged the moment their browser loads it. So when you chase a quote that's gone quiet, you're chasing on facts, not a guess.

● Karven
  • Logged server-side, on page load. The open is recorded when the quote page renders for the customer, not when an email client decides to load images.

  • Your own previews don't count. When you open your own quote to check it, that view is skipped. So “viewed” means the customer, not you.

  • Opened three times, not accepted? That's a hot lead. Karven flags it and your follow-up recipe can branch on it.

The read-receipt problem

Tradies tell us the read-receipts in other quoting tools cry wolf: they show “opened” when nobody opened anything. Email-based tracking fires on spam scanners, link previewers and image proxies, so the receipt lights up before the customer has seen a thing.

Chase off a false positive and you ring a customer who never got your quote, telling them you can see they read it. That's the opposite of looking sharp. We'd rather show you nothing than show you a lie, so a Karven open is one you can act on.

We're not naming names. This is what tradies tell us they miss, straight from the reviews of the tools they switched from.

Chase quotes that go quiet. Opened but no reply gets a gentle nudge. Never opened gets a re-send. Same recipe, different branch, both off a signal you can trust.

§03 / The moat

Four things that are genuinely ours.

Our patch

Deterministic pricing engine

The price comes from a rules engine that knows your trade, not from line items you re-type every quote. Same inputs, same number, every time. That's the part Tradify leaves to you and Excel.

Our patch

AU tax layer: BAS, TPAR, RCTI

GST handled, TPAR contractor reporting and RCTI recipient-created invoices for subbie work built in. The Australian compliance gear is part of the tool, not a bolt-on you wire up yourself.

Our patch

Auto-chasing that branches on behaviour

A follow-up recipe (email, wait, SMS, reminder) that branches on whether the customer opened or accepted, with AU quiet hours and public-holiday awareness. Quotes stop going quiet on their own.

Our patch

Per-workspace pricing

One price for the workspace. Add your apprentice for nothing. Tradify is reviewed as charging per seat, so a small crew pays for every login.

§04 / Where Tradify wins

We don't do everything. On purpose.

If any of these is the job you need done, run Tradify. Plenty of tradies run both: Karven for the quote, Tradify for the rest.

  • Tradify's patch

    Job scheduling and dispatch

Booking jobs, assigning crews, calendar view. Tradify does this; Karven doesn't.

  • Tradify's patch

    On-site time tracking

Clock in / clock out per job for timesheets. That's a Tradify job, not ours.

  • Tradify's patch

    End-to-end invoicing in one app

Karven sends the quote and pushes to Xero or MYOB once accepted. Tradify keeps the full invoicing loop in-app.

KarvenTradify

The common stack. Karven owns the moment you win the job; Tradify runs everything after the customer says yes.
