What a good handyman & maintenance quote needs
- Each job on its own line, so the customer can pick and choose.
- Your call-out or minimum charge, first, so it's never a surprise.
- Whether each job is a fixed price or by the hour.
- Materials and consumables, or an allowance.
- What's not included, especially anything that needs a licensed trade.
- Rubbish removal if you're taking anything away.

On every handyman & maintenance quote
- Licence
- Include on the quote: Licence number, if your state licenses the work you do.
- Electrical, plumbing and gas work always needs a licensed trade. In Queensland a handyman doesn't need a QBCC licence for jobs up to $3,300 that aren't electrical or plumbing work; in NSW a contractor licence is needed for residential building work over $5,000 inc GST. Check your regulator.
- Compliance
- Leave electrical, plumbing and gas off your quote, or note that a licensed trade will do it.
- A long list can add up past your state's licence limit. Watch the total on bigger lists.
- GST
- If you are registered for GST, Karven adds 10% once and shows one total inc GST. If you are not registered, there is no GST line. More in GST on quotes.
- Deposit
- Most small jobs are paid on completion, so leave the deposit at 0% and just send the quote. For a long list with materials, set a deposit % and they can pay it by card or bank transfer when they accept.
- Example: the sample job above is $369.60 inc GST, so the 10% deposit is $36.96.
- Variations
- Fix the door and find the frame is rotten? Add a variation on the accepted quote with the extra work and the price, and they sign it on the link while you're still there.

How do I quote a long list of small jobs?
Put each job on its own line and make the nice-to-haves optional. The customer ticks the ones they want and the total updates before they accept.
Does the call-out go on the quote?
If you charge one, yes, as the first line. Karven's handyman items have weekday and weekend call-outs ready.
What jobs can't a handyman quote for?
Electrical, plumbing and gas work needs a licensed trade everywhere in Australia, and bigger building jobs need a licence in most states. Leave those off or note that a licensed trade will do them.
