Why tradies switch
Faster quotes, the same maths every time.
Hardware bundles, not 17 line items
Pick a hardware tier — basic / mid / premium — and the engine bundles the right hinges, lock, lever, strike. PDF shows it as one bundle, not a SKU dump.
Glazing accounted for
Glazed doors trigger an add-on for glass (per m²) + bead, and labour bumps to the right multiplier. No manual cents-per-pane addition.
Security door labour modelled
Security mesh door installs take longer (mesh tensioning, frame anchoring) — the engine adjusts labour without you remembering to.
Under the bonnet
How the engine handles the edge cases
Hinge count isn't a fixed three. A 2040x820 hollow-core door takes three hinges. A 2340x920 solid timber door takes four because of the leaf weight, AS 4145 spec. The engine picks the count from door weight (calculated from species + dimensions), so the customer's PDF always shows the right hardware bundle without you remembering the threshold.
Glazed doors are priced as door wholesale plus glass m² plus bead linear metres. The glass m² isn't the door area; it's the cutout, which is typically 60-70% of the door area for a half-glazed door or 90% for a full glazed. The engine asks 'glazing percentage' and calculates from there. Most templates just multiply the door area by a fixed factor and over-charge or under-charge.
Pivot doors aren't priced like hinged doors. The pivot hardware is roughly 4-6x a standard hinge set because of the load-rated bearing and the floor box. The jamb has to be rated too. Install takes 1.5-1.8x as long because the pivot point has to be aligned to fractions of a millimetre or the door binds. The template encodes those differences as a separate 'pivot' branch, not a multiplier on a hinged door.
Entry doors · FAQ
Trade-specific questions.
The questions entry door tradies actually ask. Want to see how it works on a real job?
Does it handle French or double doors?
Yes. Pick 'double' in the configurator. Engine doubles the door spec, jamb width, and hinge count, but only adds the second strike if it's a fixed leaf.
Can I quote architraves and weather strip?
Yes. Both are toggleable add-ons. Architraves price by linear metre (engine knows the perimeter). Weather strip flat rate. Customer sees them on the itemised PDF.
What about custom-made doors?
Use the 'custom' door type. Manually enter the wholesale price, and the engine handles everything else (jamb, hardware, install labour) at your standard rates.
Does it know the difference between hinged and pivot installs?
Yes. Pivot doors take a heavier jamb (rated for the pivot hinge load) and a longer install (pivot floor box, alignment). The engine picks the right jamb tier and bumps labour to 1.6x a standard hinged install. Custom pivots can be overridden if your supplier ships a different system.
Can I quote a security mesh on a standard timber door?
Yes. Security mesh is an add-on, not a replacement. Engine keeps the timber door + jamb + hardware lines, adds the mesh frame (per m²), mesh hardware (separate locking tier), and bumps labour for the extra tensioning. Customer sees mesh as a clearly-broken-out cost.
What if the jamb is custom (rebated, raked, arched)?
Switch the jamb to 'custom' and enter the linear metres. Engine still applies your per-metre rate, but skips the 7200mm length-rounding that standard rectangular jambs use. For arched heads you can add a flat-rate trim allowance under add-ons.
Does it handle handle hardware bundles from specific suppliers (Lockwood, Whitco, Centor)?
Yes. Onboarding lets you load up to four hardware tiers per supplier (basic, mid, premium, designer). Each tier remembers hinge count, lock model, lever, strike. Pick the tier on the quote, engine inserts the right bundle line. Switching suppliers takes 10 seconds in Settings.
