Optional extras, quantities and Pick one

Let the customer tick extras on or off, set their own quantity, or choose between options, with one live total that updates as they go.

A quote doesn't have to be take-it-or-leave-it. In the simple editor you can make any line something the customer decides. They play with it on their quote page, the total moves as they go, and when they accept, what they chose is locked in.

Setting it up

In the simple editor, open the options on a line (the small settings button at the end of the row). You'll see:

  • Optional extra. The customer ticks it on or off and the price moves with it.
    • Starts ticked. Leave it on if you're recommending it, turn it off if it's a nice-to-have.
    • Customer picks the quantity. Your qty is the starting point; they can change it. Handy for extra posts, extra lights, extra coats.
  • Pick one. Pick one lines in the same part become one choice for the customer, even with other lines between them. The line you mark Pick one last starts selected, and you can move that with Starts selected in any option's ⋯ menu.

For a pick-one, put the choice lines in the same part. For example, three lines for Colorbond, timber paling and aluminium slat, each set to Pick one. The customer picks one and the others drop out of the total. A single choice line on its own just acts like a normal line.

What the customer sees

On their quote page the customer gets:

  • a tick box for each optional extra
  • a quantity box on extras where you let them pick the quantity
  • a pick-one list for each set of choices
  • one live total that follows every change, along with the subtotal and GST

Extras and choices show with their prices whatever you've set the Customer sees setting to, so they always know what they're choosing.

When they accept

When the customer accepts, Karven freezes exactly what they chose: which extras were ticked, the quantities, and which choice they picked. The accepted total is worked out by Karven from those picks, not taken from their screen.

On your side, the quote's status line says what they chose, something like "chose Colorbond + 1 option", so you know what you're building before you open the quote.

Tips

  • Tick Starts selected on your recommended option. It's what the customer sees first, and most people stick with it.
  • Keep extras real. Two or three good add-ons beat ten small ones.
  • If a job has clearly different scopes rather than add-ons, set them up as good, better, best options with Pick one.
